Creative Writing Workshop (Grades 5-8)

Ignite your students' imagination with our interactive Creative Writing Workshop! Through fun, hands-on activities, students will learn the fundamentals of storytelling, build confidence in their writing, and develop creativity. Perfect for grades 5-8, this workshop encourages young writers to create their own stories while learning valuable skills in literacy and communication.

Duration: 4 hours

Activities Included:

Welcome and Introduction (15 minutes)

Introduction of myself as the author, sharing my journey of becoming a writer and the inspiration behind my books.

Interactive Storytime (1 hour)

Read one or two of my books to the group. Engage the students with interactive storytelling techniques, including acting out parts of the story and using props.

Writing Workshop: Create Your Own Storybook (1 hour):

Teach the children about the basic elements of a story: characters, setting, plot, and conflict. Guide them through creating their own short story, complete with illustrations. Provide worksheets and materials for them to brainstorm, draft, and illustrate their stories.

Q&A Session (45 minutes):

Open the floor for questions about writing, publishing, and storytelling.

Book Signing, Photos, & Wrap-Up (45 minutes):

Sign books, take photos, and provide personalized feedback on the children’s stories. Distribute certificates of participation to each child, celebrating their efforts in the workshop.

Interaction with Teachers and Staff (30 minutes):

We will conclude the workshop with an in-depth session dedicated to teachers. This time can be used to discuss strategies for continuing the children’s interest in writing and storytelling after the workshop. Share additional resources, such as recommended reading lists, writing prompts, and creative exercises that teachers can use in their classrooms. Offer insights into how educators can support budding writers, and provide personalized suggestions for integrating creative writing into daily lessons. This session provides an opportunity for professional development for both me and the teachers, and to build rapport with the educators, principal, librarian, and other staff.
